| | Fortunately, none of our programs requires long in-country stays at this time. One country- Guatemala- allows us to escort the child to you.

| | In Eastern European countries, for example, children are often offered shortly after your dossier is complete. At the other extreme, the Chinese authorities currently allow children to be offered between four and six months after receipt of your dossier.

| What is your adoption budget? |
| | We wish for the sake of the children and for your sake as well that expenses were nominal. They are not. The Datz Foundation of $3,500 is among the most reasonable in the country. We keep it low, because our intercountry adoptions are subsidized by other Datz programs. However, we have no control over the foreign fees. In most cases, your total adoption, including home study and travel, will cost in the high teens or low twenties. Consult our list of comparative fees. | Can I choose the family who adopts my child? |
| | Yes, you can select the parents who will be adopting your child.
Each family makes a photo profile with pictures and information on their family life. There is a birth mother letter which covers the questions you might want to ask them, such as religious preferences, views of discipline, interest and hobbies. We will present several of these profiles to you based on the information you give us on the type of family you would like.

| Can the adoptive family take the baby home from the hospital? |
| | Yes, the adoptive family can take custody of the baby immediately after discharge from the hospital. The adoptive family will usually visit you just before the birth or if you wish, you may consider having them present for the birth. It is up to you and what you feel most comfortable with --having them in the delivery room, meeting them afterwards, or not meeting them at all or having the social worker take the baby out of the hospital and place the baby with the family.

| Do I need to inform the birth father of the intended adoption? |
| | You may be able to proceed with the adoption, but most states require him to be informed of the adoption plan. If he objects to the adoption, there may be circumstances where the adoption can proceed but it may depend on state law and how serious he is about raising the child.

| How do I pay for the medical costs of the pregnancy and birth? |
| | If you choose adoption, the adoptive parents will assume the costs of you medical care and that of the baby. We will try to help you apply for Medicaid or other types of insurance that might be available.
